ABSTRACT

Substance P-like immunoreactive(SP-IR) innervation in the nasal mucosa of the guinea pig was localized by the avidin-biotin-peroxidase(ABC) method of immunohistochemistry. SP-IR innervation was distributed within lining epithelium, in subepithelial layer, along the wall of vessels and around glands, but also within nasal glandular structures.

These findings suggest the morphologic evidence of local neuronal reflex networks between norciception on surface epithelium and actions in local vascular bed and on submucosal glands.
