ABSTRACT

An osteoma is a benign bone tumor that commonly is seen in the mandible or maxilla in the head and neck region, but is rare in the soft tissue in the head and neck, such as tongue. Recently we experienced a case of tongue osteoma. A 16-year-old woman presented with about 11cm sized, nodular, firm mass. The mass was observed on the left side of the dorsum of the tongue. According to the medical record, when she was undergone tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy 7 years ago, there was the mass at the same site of the tongue at that time. It appears that the mass was enlarged slowly over the past 7 years. Surgical excision was done after physical exam and magnetic resonance image. Histologically, the lesion was compact bone with osteocytes and haversian system and the bone was surrounded by fibrous connective tissue and stratified squamous epithelium. So the lesion was diagnosed as ‘osteoma of the tongue’. (J Clinical Otolaryngol 2009;20:110-114)

ㄱ. 갑상선 고주파는 전극 주변에 고주파 전류가 흐르면서 조직내 이온들을 빠르게 진동시키고 
이렇게 발생한 마찰열(friction heat)을 통해 섭씨 60~100도씨의 열을 발생시켜 조직의 응고 괴사를 유도한다.
