ABSTRACT

Postoperative maxillary sinus cyst develops 10-30 years after Caldwell-Luc surgery. It is also called postoperative maxillary sinus mucocele or postoperative maxillary cyst. The etiology of the cystic lesion may be derived from the infected sinus mucosa left after a sinus operation. The most consistent symptom is dull maxillary facial pain. Enlarged cysts infrequently protrude into the orbit and elevate the eyeball on the affected side. On that occasion, proptosis, enophthalmos, diplopia, ptosis, and epiphora can develop. In most cases, the location of cyst is unilateral. However, bilaterality is rare.

We report a case of bilateral postoperative maxillary sinus cyst affecting the orbits, which were managed via revision Caldwell-Luc’s operation with good result.
