요약

알레르기 비염은 지난 20년간 서구생활 양식을 하는 나라에서는 항히 스타민제나 스테로이드제의 사용에도 불구하고 그 유병율이 두 배 이상 증가하였다. 미국에서 는 약 20%, 유럽에서는 약 23%의 유병율을 보이고 있 다. 이러한 알레르기 질환을 근본적으로 치료할 수 있는 유일한 방법은 allergen-specific immumthempy(SIT) 를 통한 면역 조절뿐이며 또한 면역 치료는 알레르기 비 염에서 천식에 이르는 알레르기 질환의 자연 경과를 예방 할 수 있다고 알려져 있다.
