ABSTRACT

Background and Objectives: A technique to elevate the floor of the maxillary sinus with autogenous bone graft seems to be a new reliable treatment modality, as the alveolar bone volume is often inadequate. The aim of our study is to evaluate the anatomic effects on the mucosa of maxillary sinus after this procedure. Subjects and Methods: Eighteen patients with this dental implant were included in this study. All patient received dentascan computerized tomography and were checked the questionnaire about symptoms of rhinosinusitis. Results: Mean value of mucosa thickness was 2.2 mm before the implant and 2.9 mm after this procedure. And most patients had no symptoms of rhinosinusitis before and after the implant. Only one patient had developed the rhinosinu- sitis after the implant, and so he had the endoscopic sinus surgery. Conclusion: We conclude that this sinus floor elevation technique had few complication so this was safe procedure. (J Clinical Otolaryngol 2008;19:57–62)
