ABSTRACT

Tracheal diverticulum is relatively rare. It results from congenital or acquired weakness of the tracheal wall. We experienced a case of tracheal diverticulum-an unexpected finding in computed tomography (CT):61-year old male with suspicious papillary thyroid carcinoma in fine needle aspiration (FNAB) was admitted for total thyroidectomy. Neck CT finding was incidentally found right paratracheal air cyst in the thoracic inlet. The patient did not report coughing or any other symptom. It is important to identify anatomic relationship between tracheal diverticulm and recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) during thyroidectomy not to injure RLN. We report a case of posterolateral tracheal divertiulum with a review of the related literature. (J Clinical Otolaryngol 2009;20:264-267)
