ABSTRACT
Plain X-ray traditionally has been used to diagnosis of sinusitis but the diagnostic accuracy is still controversy. So we evaluated 25 patients who visited Kang-Nam St. Mary’s Hospital during the period from January 1992 to August 1992 with sinusitis symptoms. The patients were revaluated with CT and compared it with plain X-ray for the presence of sinusitis and its severity. The results were as follows:
Plain X-ray showed a 82% diagnostic accuracy in the presence of maxillary sinusitis with a 54% accuracy in the severity.
Plain X-ray showed a 84% diagnostic accuracy in the presence of ethmoid sinusitis with a 60% accuracy in the severity.
Plain X-ray showed a 80% diagnostic accracy in the presence of frontal sinusitis with a 60% accuracy in the severity.
Olfactory fissure showed a 74% accuracy in the determining the patency.
