ABSTRACT

Thyroid carcinoma comprise approximately 1% of all malignancies. Four types of thyroid cancer comprise more than 98% of all thyroid malignance.Papillary thyroid carcinoma is the most common malignancies of thyroid in countries with sufficient iodine diets and comprises up to 80% of all thyroid malignances. Follicular thyroid carcinoma is more common in regions with insufficient iodine diets and represents approximately 10-20% of all thyroid malignances. Fifty six-year-old man was diagnosed with follicular thyroid carcinoma in right lobe, and left lobe incidentally showed an papillary microcarcinoma after total thyroidectomy. Despite their common origin from follicular epithelial cells, papillary and follicular thyroid carcinomas differ in their histology and clinical course. We report a case of concurrent follicular and papillary carcinoma of the thyroid gland, with a review of the previously reported literature. (J Clinical Otolaryngol 2006;17:291-293)
