ABSTRACT
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a kind of autoimmune disease of unknown cause, affects young females predominantly. It causes non-specific symptoms such as fever, chilling, myalgia, abdominal pain and can lead to specific organ dysfunction such as glomerulonephritis, pericarditis and pleuritis. We examined a 22-year-old female presented with neck masses, fever, chilling and sore throat. Two neck masses were palpated on level II/III with softness and tenderness. The patient was treated under the impression of reactive cervical lymphadenitis and Kikuchi’s disease. But she didn’t respond to antibiotics treatment and referred to a tertiary hospital due to decreased mentality and pleural effusion, where she was diagnosed as SLE and lupus lymphadenitis. So we report this case with a review of literatures. (J Clinical Otolaryngol 2006;17:285-287)
