ABSTRACT

Amyloidosis is an irreversible disease characterized by the accumulation of insoluble, fibrous amyloid proteins in the extracellular spaces of organs and tissues. Histologically, microscopic findings of pale pinkish amorphous material in Hematoxylin-Eosin stain and birefringence material with apple green color in congo red staining with polarizing are pathognomonic. Multiple organs such as liver, kidney, heart can be frequently involved in this disease, but head and neck organs are rarely involved. We report a case of primary systemic amyloidosis with the mouth floor and tongue involvement managed with conservative treatment. (J Clinical Otolaryngol 2003;14:133-136)
