ABSTRACT

Malignant tumor arising in thyroglossal duct remnants is known as rare disease. Because of clinical similarity to benign neck mass, it is difficult to accurate diagnosis before surgery. If the tumor has not extended through the cyst wall, local excision with the Sistrunk procedure is adequate. But if the carcinoma is shown to have extended beyond the capsule, more radical procedures are recommended. It’s long-term prognosis is very favorable.

Recently, we experienced two cases of adenocarcinoma originating in the thyroglossal duct remnants; in one case, malignant lesion was locally confined to the ectopic thyroid tissue, but the other case was extracystic extension one.
