요약

폐쇄성 수면 무호흡증은 수면 중 반복적인 상기도의 완 전 또는 부분적인 폐쇄로 인한 무호흡이나 저호흡 상태 가 발생하며 정상적인 수면을 방해하여 주간 과다 졸림증 등을 유발하는 질환이다. 상기도 폐쇄를 유발하는 원인 으로 구인두 측벽의 내측 함입, 혀의 후방이동, 연구개의 후하방이동과 전체인두의 하방이동 등이 관여하며 이러한 과정은 상기도 확장근의 활성도 감소와 흡기 시 발생하는 상기도 내의 음압에 의한 수동적인 과정에 기인한다.¹⁾ 유 병률은 국내에서 연구된 바는 없으나 미국에서 남성의 4%, 여성의 2% 정도로 보고되고²⁾ 중국도 비슷한 유병률 을 보여³⁾⁴⁾ 한국에서도 비슷한 유병률을 나타낼 것으로 생각된다.
